The mission of the Energy-Related Environmental Research Area within PIER (PIER-EA) is to develop cost-effective approaches to evaluating and resolving environmental effects of energy production, delivery and use in California; and explore how new electricity applications and products can solve environmental problems.

The research supported by PIER-EA falls into four main categories: Air Quality and Energy, Aquatic Resources and Energy, Terrestrial Resources and Energy, and Energy Related Global Climate Change Issues. Some PIER-EA research highlights are given below. Results from other projects can be viewed at Reports and Publications.
